Talkshow Gas and Geothermal: Chance, Investment, Policy, and Challenge in Indonesia
Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Intellectual Parade 2011 is getting closer, and the beginning of this event will be started with a kind of Talk show.
The theme of the Talk Show is “Gas and Geothermal: Chance, Investment,
Policy, and Challenge in Indonesia”.
The talk show will discuss about the challenge of development gas and geothermal energy in Indonesia from investment factor and rules made by Government of Indonesia. It is aimed to increase the knowledge of students and to find the solution from the current problems about gas and geothermal energy.
World oil demand is continuously being replaced by natural gas as alternative energy in fulfilling the world needs. Natural gas is a natural resource that consists of hydrocarbons (CnH2n+2) and the impurities such as N2, C02, and H2S. Many oil companies try to increase gas production to replace oil role while its production is decreasing.
Also in Indonesia, many oil companies are trying to improve their gas production for fulfilling the energy demands in Indonesia.
Indonesia is ranked seventh in world gas production, with proven reserves more than 112 TCF in year 2008.This rank eleventh largest in the world and the largest in Asia Pacific region. Gas reserves are equivalent to three times Indonesia's oil reserves and can supply the country for 50 years at current production rates.
Another option for the energy in Indonesia is Geothermal. Indonesia has the greatest geothermal energy potential in the world. Positioned perfectly on the Ring of Fire that circles the Pacific Ocean, the nation has an abundant source of clean, sustainable energy to complement its immense hydrocarbon and coal reserves. The Indonesian Government is fully aware of its geothermal possibilities. At the UN Climate Conference in Bali in December 2007, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, pledged to provide the right encouragement and incentives to allow geothermal power generation and heat production to grow enough to contribute 5% of the country's primary energy supply by 2015-2020.
With Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Intellectual Parade 2011, we are trying to introduce more about this energy, and understand more about their role for Indonesian's energy enhancement.
By knowing the Chance, Investment, Policy, and Challenge for those energy, especially in Indonesia and generally in Asia Pacific, hope this event will bring many benefits for all the participants.
This event is the beginning from Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Intellectual Parade 2011, we will provide a good services for all the audiences in this event, with a culture performance from traditional dancing from Yogyakarta.
Because of this event, we are really hope that, many tourists could visit Yogyakarta, after Merapi Attack in this November.

Why OGIP 2011 Should Join Event?
Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Intellectual Parade 2011 is a join event between Petroleum Engineering Department of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta Student Board with SM IATMI UPN(Society of Indonesian Petroleum Engineers), SPE SC UPN (Society of Petroleum Engineers), and Komunitas Migas indonesia (KMI).
In Indonesia, there are so many non-profit organizations which are have a same vision to improve the sustainability of energy in Indonesia. In Oil, Gas, Geothermal, Solar Energy, even in Coal Bed Methane.
They are trying to keep the energy sustainability in fulfilling the indonesian's energy needs.
In the last articles, we have been discussed about the profile from all local sponsor in Asia Pacific Oil and Gas Intellectual Parade 2011 and on behalf of it we are trying to synergize all the visions from each organization, and we are trying to gather them in a same forum, for discussing many issues that emerge in our country.
We believe, with this collaboration, it will make a good impact for the oil and gas industry improvement and The theme of OGIP 2011 “Jadi Tuan Rumah di Negeri Sendiri”. could be a good initiative to encourage students as young generation to keep on study so that the stability and independency of energy which become dreams for all society could be come true.
The existence for all those organitation (IATMI, SPE, and KMI) is very helpful as the learning partner for students and industries.
They could be a facilitator between industries and students and bring newest technology, deep knowledge and working culture.
Hopefully this join event, could bring a good inheritances especially for all the participants and generally for all people in Indonesia, like the topic of course.
Komunitas Migas Indonesia (KMI)
As an ethical multi discipline professional organisation KMI - Komunitas Migas Indonesia (Indonesia Oil & Gas Community) - must have a brief and complete information about KMI. Professional Organisation KMI needs to introduce the values, the vision & mission and the strategy to achieve them to the members and the community. Eventhough KMI has Oil & Gas in its name, KMI scope grows not only in Oil & Gas Industry, but also in other industries such as Energy, Mining, Electricity, Petrochemical, Marine, Manufacturing, Metal, Heavy Equipment, Transportation, Telecommunication, IT, and many others supporting industries until Universities, Research Institutions, Association and Electronic Media. This way KMI can strengthen its existance and independence as an organisation of professionals and experts in their disciplines.
KMI strength come from the professionalism of the members who routinely and continuously share information, knowledge and experience which are very valuable to further strengthen the competencies of the involved parties and so multiplying the quality of Indonesia human resources. Decision making mechanism in KMI usually done through a consensus in the virtual media (mailing list and websites) by bottom-up approach. The majority voice might not be refered if does not meet the science and technology criteria.
As an organisation of players, KMI has no intention to do activities which can offense any body whosoever without indicating applicable alternative solution. KMI also does not do any practical politic activity which can hinder professional freedom which is in line with the ethics that may not discriminative.
In developing its independence, KMI does not pretend doing all the activity alone. So many KMI activities even growing with the support in form of cooperation with so many parties who also value the professionalism such as professional organization, association, research institutions, universities, government and private sector. Eventhough, KMI will always digging and strengthening the potency and the resources of the members to strengthen the organisation which will end up in giving significant contribution for development of Indonesia.
Hoping KMI can answer the challenges in recent and future situation as a part of winning Indonesia in global competition.
